PART III

Now we have to add some splines to give more detail to the object.
First, delete all original splines and leave the object alone. Then press "Edit—Add Point" and add 3 more splines onto the top part of the head as seen in the next image.

After adding these 3 splines to the object, you have to extract, Draw—Extract",and skin, "Surface—Skin", them one more time so you can work with modelling relations on.
Start by creation a space for the eyes, basically move the point where the eye goes in the forth and fifth splines a little inwards. Look closely into the picture and you will see what mean. To make the nose holes, you have to move, y-axis, the point represented by the red dot on the third spline, as you can see on the next image. To make the outside of the nostrils, move the points next to the red dot on the forth and fifth spline. One goes inwards and the other outwards.

The mouth is one of the hardest things to model; it has no secrets just move and tag points until you are satisfied. My only suggestion is to look in magazines or books for reference.

You should know by now what kind of face you want to model, skinny, fat, old, male female….. Again it is up to you to shape it accordingly. I am looking for a fat character, so I will shape the lower splines to give him some fat in the lower jaw. I have also removed some splines to keep geometry low. The whole face is 5,000 polygons.

Once you are happy with one the half you are working on, you just do a symmetry over the x-axis and copy all splines except the top and bottom ones. The final step it to skin them again and see the result. Enjoy.
