Character Machinima

This Machinima was made post graduation. The goal was to make a character driven piece that told a story and be less than a minute in length and I am quite pleased with the results. The characters used are from the Two Souls character pack that ships with Unreal 3. These characters are not spawned pawns (bots) but animated skeletal meshes but I wanted use them as they are excellent high detail models. I used different parts of both base and cinematic animation sets to get the various motions that I wanted. Using Matinee I was able to speed up or slow down the selected animation. Lastly the final shot was achieved by pulling the camera back and key framing between a small field of view (FOV) and large one and adding a slight upwards tilt.

Base Chase

I made this video with a classmate during my time at VFS. I was responsible for lighting, shot composition, the camera rigs for the two space ships, half of the level and some camera work. The camera rigs were constructed by hard attaching various cameras to the interpret actors, in this case ships. All key frame animation along with all camera changes were done with the matinée tool in engine. Extensive use of the curve editor was required to get the results shown below. Enjoy!
