desperately Seeking, the sequel to JumpStart's latest work Running Shoe Points, is an urgent, humorous quest of the spirit. Grace lies in a coma in the state hospital, her running shoes sticking out of an ugly green blanket. She dreams impossible dreams, her body zinging and flying in awkward rhthm to the technicolour images in her brain. Using her body as a divining rod, she begins her journey through a bizarre sequence of events to rediscover meaning in her empty life.

When Grace cannot find answers in the world of dreams she wakes up to the world of the physical. Her fellow inmates are odd, misshapen busybodies who buzz about her in frightening ways. Without an answer, Grace knows she will die. Far from morbid, she is rather funny in her impractical search; sometimes dancing with a kindred spirit who refuses to ever remove his rollerblades or climbing higher and higher on the beds to reach purer light. Desperately Seeking is a simple quest that transforms into a detective story of the human spirit. It is not in the usual places that Graces is able to find what she is looking for but suddenly in unexplained circumstaces a divine tenderness appears and sears her soul.

JumpStart &Winnipeg's Contemporary Dancers join forcesto create this desperate, yet whimsical work. Nine performers dance on running shoe point convinced that this is their only possibility for salvation. They speed around the confines, going nowhere, rising on point seeking higher ground and purer air. They amaze us with their daring, their physicality and their dancing.

Desperately Seeking will be shown in both Winninpeg and Vancouver.
