Raphael
Geronimo
Raphael,
the band leader, plays the bongos, congas, drum set and timbales. Like
his dad, Boying, Raphael studied advanced percussion methods in Cuba
at the Foclorico Nacional de Cuba. He developed more drum techniques
from Boy's Harbour Centre in New York. His exciting percussion work
and exuberant on-stage personality has made him an integral part of
many Vancouver bands. He is also a graphic artist.

Nick
Apivor
Nick plays
the vibraphone and keyboards. Nick graduated from the university of
Victoria. Aside from performing with Rumba Calzada, Nick currently has
a children's show, African Fireside Tales, which features his own compositions.
He has played a wide variety of music: rhythm and blues with Magazine
and RR + B Band, jazz with NOW Orchestra, and orchestral percussion
with the Victoria Symphony. His career in theater music has been extensive;
hi-lights include performing in the Tahmanour Theater production of
FAUST and concert production of Phantom of the Opera/Les Miserables.

Oliver
Santamaria
Oliver is
the lead vocalist. He has recorded in the Dominican Republic and has
won several vocal awards. Aside from his charismatic and humorous personality,
this Nicaraguan born singer looks like the great tenor Luciano Pavarotti!

Kary
Taylor
Kary plays
bongos, congas, quiro, campana. He trained under Boying for the last
three years. Kary started playing with the band during their month long
gig in Manila. He is also the band's resident dentist.

Ariel
Lopez
Ariel plays
the bass guitar. He is originally from Cuba, having studied music at
the Escuela de Superacion de Ignacio Cervantes He used to be a member
of Fiebre latina (Latin Fever) from Cuba. Ariel is also a great musical
arranger.

Victor
Bongat
Vic has been
in the music business for 30 years, starting at the age of seven. He
plays the trombone, sax and tenor sax, and flute. He has performed all
over the world: a year in Japan, four years in a cruise ship which traveled
from Mexico to New York and a couple of years with the Philippine Navy
Band. Vic is also an instruments repair specialist.

Mike
Simpson
Mike plays
the keyboards. He studied jazz at the University of Victoria, and the
Berkelee School of Music. He also composes his own music and writes
jingles. In his spare time, Mike enjoys river rafting, competitive swimming
and ocean diving.

Edgar
Romero
Edgar plays
the bongos, campana, and maracas. Originally from Peru, Edgar has lived
and loved Latin music all of his life. Having played with many Vancouver
bands, Edgar is a swift and skillfull percussionist.
